Where did mortgage rates end last week?

The national average rate for a 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage continued to dip and ended Friday down 0.03% to 6.82%.* The national average finished the week just below a 5-month low.

CPI came in cooler on Thursday, but the Producer Price Index came in a little hotter than expected. The bond market appeared to shrug off the data point and rallied. The rally led the national average for mortgage rates a little lower.

We may drift this week as there aren’t any major data points, but there could always be a surprise news item or data point that could influence the market.

What does it cost to buy a home in a beach town?

Have you considered moving to a town that offers easy access to beaches? It may be easier to afford than you think. The team at Realtor.com has looked into the current market and found the top 10 most affordable beach towns in the U.S. right now.

Topping the list as the most affordable beach town in the country is Calabash, NC. Located just north of Myrtle Beach, SC, Calabash is right off the Atlantic Ocean, and has a median home price of $367,100. That’s well under the national average and provides access to some of the best golf courses and restaurants in the area.

Lillian, AL came in second place, but half the list was taken up by markets in Florida. The Sunshine State continues to show value since it’s come down from its peak.
